1. Parvana's Mother went to the prison despite the Taliban were unlikely to release her husband because she probably loved him very much and that no one could support the family but him because he is a male and only males can go work outside so the family needed him very much.
If I was her in this situation I would just wait and make the supplies last until he is released because the Taliban has to let him out of prison someday even though it is unlikely he will soon.

Parvana's mother stopped taking care of the family she probably thought getting her husband out of prison is the first thing she must do when she is outside because without the husband there will be no source of income and that means no supplies or food. Parvana must of felt sad because the Taliban took her father away and now they are beating her mother with a stick even though she begged them to stop hitting her mother in the text,"Stop! Stop it! We'll go now! We'll go!"(Chapter 3, page 42, paragraph 8).
